Solace On a Tree Top

Perched on the top of pine trees, this Swedish hotel offers more than a good night’s sleep



For all those urbanites who are seeking some respite from the city’s hustle-bustle, here’s a retreat on the top of a tree. Two Swedish hoteliers have come up with Treehotel, a new green hotel concept, where rooms are set high above the ground in the pines. Located in the village of Harods, in Swedish Lapland, Treehotel is in close proximity with the Arctic Circle and is surrounded by pristine forests.

Designed by Sweden’s leading architects Sandell & Sandberg, Interior Group AB and Marten Cyrene, Treehotel is a prefabricated cube-shaped treehouse encased in mirror walls. It is accessible by a ladder that runs from the ground to the centre of the unit.An onlooker might notice that the mirror walls make the treehouse blend with the surrounding wilderness.

The owners of the hotel quip that,“Our lives in dense and busy cities, loaded with stress, give us little opportunity to live simply in the true beauty of nature’s wilderness. Undisturbed nature, such as we have here in Harods, is an increasingly rare and valuable asset. That’s why we chose to build our concept hotel here, so that you can experience the calm, simplicity and the unspoilt beauty in harmony with the surroundings. The plan is to build 24 new rooms in a period of five years.”

Apart from peace and solace, Treehotel also offers a wide range of recreational activities like hiking, horse riding, snug sleigh rides, husky sled safari and snowshoe trekking.
