Lighting Control Brings Energy Efficiency Into Lab

The Gurdon Institute was identified by The University of Cambridge as one of five pilot departments for energy reduction, due to its high consumption levels. Alongside a behaviour change campaign, energy saving technologies were researched that would maximise savings with minimum disruption to the researchers and their work environment. To see the impact that lighting control could have on the ‘unloved’ areas of The Gurdon Institute’s building facilities manager Kathy Hilton set up a trial in an equipment room; and a research laboratory.

Orient Electric Obtains BEE Star Rating for LED Lamps

The $1.6-billion CK Birla Group firm Orient Electric has been awarded 3-star rating by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) for its 5, 7, and 9 watt LED lamps. BEE, under its Standards & Labeling programme for LED lights, considers the lumens per watt and other safety requirements as key parameters to rate bulbs on a five star scale for energy-efficiency and the light it produces. 


The 10th edition of Renewable Energy India (REI) Expo will be held from September 7 to 9 at the India Expo Center, Greater Noida. It will congregate the country’s green economy community as well as overseas participants to discuss industry trends, challenges, market insights, and domestic regulatory framework. The platform aims to upscale and mainstream the applications of renewable energy resources, showcase product launches and innovations, says the show’s organiser UBM India Pvt Ltd.

Lumileds Unveils AtmoSphere Luxeon LED for Restaurants, Hospitality

Global light engine technology leader Lumileds has introduced Luxeon LED with AtmoSphere technology. It can be used to create ideal ambiance for restaurants and other hospitality venues, making customers feel cosy, comfortable and relaxed. “Halogen lighting had long dominated restaurants, bars and other hospitality lighting due to its ultra warm light capability — even while LEDs offered 70-80% energy savings versus halogen. Standard LEDs do not offer the optimal replacement for halogen in restaurant environments, but AtmoSphere technology from the Luxeon Stylist series does,” affirms Luis Aceña, senior manager, stylist series at Lumileds.

Eaton to Set up Global Innovation Center in Pune

The $20.9 billion Dublin-headquartered power management MNC Eaton Corporation Plc has announced plans to establish a global innovation centre in Pune. Called Eaton India Innovation Center (EIIC), the facility will be developed in two five-storied buildings spread over 3,90,000 sft with a 70,000sft laboratory. Ilux Commissions Vrindavan Temple Lighting Project

Mumbai-based iLux Electricals Pvt Ltd (IEPL) has commissioned a major lighting project at Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh.  “The main challenge in doing the project at Priyakant Ju temple was to mount the light on every edge of its fine structure without disturbing the beauty of the structure itself. Our customer wanted to highlight the edges. They wanted a uniform bright light which illuminates luxury and enhances the beauty of this temple.
